Using Enterprise Architecture Solutions to Extend and Expand the IC’s Enterprise Registry and Repository (ER2)

The Challenge

After initial operations in 2010 and additional releases in 2011, The Enterprise Registry and Repository (ER2), sponsored by the IC CIO, was extended to include new asset types and expanded to include a new storefront capability. In addition, the ODNI requested the creation of architecture artifacts to describe the functions and structure of the ER2 solution.

The Solution

Noblis ESI Enterprise Architects provided the following service solutions in support of the IC:

  • Managed the roles and permissions and monitored activity for over 10,000 registered and causal ER2 users
  • Created fourteen DoDAF artifacts and supporting provenance documents including “As-Is” and “To-Be” artifacts
  • Aligned ER2 vision with US National Intelligence (Business) Strategic Goals and IC CIO (IT) Strategic Plan Objectives
  • Designed and regularly ran IT inventory reports and generated performance and usage metrics for ER2 stakeholders
  • Governed the registration and sharing of IT resources including the first ever IC-wide Applications Inventory effort
  • Identified and detailed three ER2 levels of sharing for IT awareness, detailed review, and shared resource access
  • Wrote and created over 200 user training documents and published them in a IC Training Site repository
